Toorbul Beach

Toorbul Beach is a peaceful locality located 49 kilometers north of Brisbane.

The town is situated on the north-east coast of the locality, bounded on the east by Pumicestone Channel, which separates mainland Queensland from Bribie Island. It is bounded to the north by Elimbah Creek and to the south by Ningi Creek, both of which flow into the Pumicestone Channel. The town can be accessed via Pumicestone Road which connects the entire locality running from the west (Caboolture) through to the town on the eastern coast.

Toorbul offers stunning flat islands off the coast which are included within the locality, such as Parrot Island and Shag Island. Exploring these islands offers visitors a chance to witness the diverse wildlife such as terns, mangrove honeyeaters, white-bellied sea eagles, and more.

The town gets its name from Toorbul Point, believed to be a Yuggera language (Yugarabul dialect) word referring to an Aboriginal group associated with the Ninghi area. Although Toorbul Point is not within the present day boundaries of the locality, it sits in Sandstone Point to the south-east. Toorbul State School was established in 1909, after the Toorbul Provisional School was opened circa 1891. During World War II in 1944, RAAF 210 Radar Station was established at 1295 Pumicestone Road. It was a British-designed Advanced Chain Overseas (ACO) radar station, one of four constructed in Queensland.
