What's on at Fremantle Arts Centre this Autumn and Winter.
John Witzig Nigel Coates and Murray Smith at Smiths Beach, 1972 | NFS Giclee print, 503x735mm
Artist | John Witzig is a pioneer of Australian surf photography, capturing the laid-back surfing culture of the 1960s and 70s, and co-founding surf magazine Tracks. Artwork | Witzig took this photo in the water, struggling to maintain his own position close to the action. This, and more of Witzig's photographs, is on display in Frontier Surfing, an exhibition exploring the history of big-wave surfing in WA, at Fremantle Arts Centre.
Wayan Upadana The Survival, 2016 | NFS Watercolour on paper, 56x76cm
Artist | Wayan Upadana is an Indonesian artist who works with drawing, painting, video and sculpture. His work reveals his critical eye and intelligent wit. Artwork | This watercolour and the other works in Upadana's exhibition Memory were produced during a residency at Fremantle Arts Centre. The show reflects on his experiences of being a tourist in WA, as a counterpoint to FAC's 2014 exhibition BALI: return economy. Memory will be open from June 4 until July 19.
