A day on the farm cuddling cute animals, picking fruit and taking tractor rides is about as good as it gets for most kids. Within one hour drive of the Perth CBD there is a range of places to spend the day open on weekends and weekdays during the school holidays. Here are four of the best.

With only a 25 minute drive from Perth, Caversham Wildlife Park promises an exciting family day out, allowing visitors to hand-feed kangaroos, enjoy interactive farm shows, and encounter various Australian animals, from possums to lizards and more! The entry fee ($15 for children aged 3 - 14 years, $34 for adults) covers all shows, talks, and animal feed. With no extra money needed around the park, you can make the most of your experience at Caversham Wildlife Park.

With a recommended minimum time of 3 hours to explore, guests can stay all day if desired. Open from 9am to 4:30pm everyday, it's advisable to arrive before 2pm to experience all attractions, with the last entry at 3:30 pm. Overall, Caversham Wildlife Park offers an enjoyable Australian wildlife encounter for the whole family.

Cohunu Koala Park

For an authentic Australian farm experience just a 40 minute driver from Perth, Cohunu is the only wildlife park in Western Australia where you can cuddle a koala. Bizarrley, it also claims a number of famous visitors, including Colonel Sanders and KISS.

Established in 1982, the park started with just two koalas and now boasts 25. Apart from the koalas, you can get up and close with dingoes, kangaroos, emus and deer. For $6, you can take a ride on Cohunu Park Railway, which runs on weekends, public and school holidays.

The park is open every day except for Christmas from 10 am to 4 pm with free entry for children under 3 years old being, $8 entry for children aged between 3 - 13 and $20 entry for children over 13 years old.

Landsdale Farm

Located in the Northern suburbs of Perth, Landsdale Farm has plenty of animals for you to enjoy. Take a tour of the farm, hop on a cart ride at the windmill or get up close with the animals during barn time. Make sure to meet Leo who despite being a miniature Hereford cow, weighs 700kg, and Greg, the friendly goat!

Landsdale’s mission is to act as more than a farm by supporting the community to learn about where their food comes from and how to be sustainable. The farmers also endeavour to create an environment of learning and discovery for people of all abilities as the whole farm is wheelchair accessible.

If you’re after a bite to eat, pop by Red Barn Café, open daily from 8.30am to 2.00pm.

Landsdale Farm is open seven days a week from 8.00am to 1:30pm, with the last entry at 1:00pm.

Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm is open 7 days a week from 9.30am - 4.00pm. Entry is $16.5 for kids and $22 for adults. The farm is suitable for all abilities as the pathway allows for pram and wheelchair access.
