Films for art, design and music enthusiasts at Revelation Film Festival

Revelation Film Festival returns with its most thought-provoking and experimental program yet. From 3 – 11 July, Revelation will showcase more than 35 features and documentaries, and a diverse selection of gripping short films from all over the world. Known for celebrating independent filmmakers and boundary pushing storytellers, the theme of this year’s festival is Distant but Connected. We've rounded up a list of some of the most striking films which feature themes ranging from do-it-yourself artwork to the Floridian boomer's paradise. Due to capacity limits put in place in light of COVID-19 restrictions it is recommended that you book tickets prior to the movie screenings to ensure a seat.


Aalto is a documentary film journey into the life and work of one of the greatest modern architects, Alvar Aalto. The film takes viewers on a cinematic tour through the creative processes and iconic buildings of Aalto and his wife, Aino. Combining contemporary film material and rare, unforeseen footage, this is an absolute must for lovers of design and architecture.

Aalto is showing at Luna Leederville on Thursday July 8 at 4:00 pm.

Kenny Scharf: When Worlds Collide

Tracing his art and life, Kenny Scharf: When Worlds Collide provides an in-depth insight into the vision and imagination of American artist Kenny Scharf. A player in the 1980s East Village art scene, Scharf is renowned for his do-it-yourself practice of painting, sculpture, fashion, video, performance art and street. Shifting seamlessly between archive footage and contemporary interviews, the film – like its subject – is inspirational.

Kenny Scharf: When Worlds Collide is playing at Luna Leederville on Saturday July 3 at 4:10 pm, Sunday July 4 at 4:00 pm, and Saturday July 10 at 2:10 pm.

The Best Battle

The Best Battle is an exploration of Santiago's political street art during the 2019/20 estallido social (social blast) that marked the remembrance of the '73 coup. This experimental film takes the form of a cinematic essay taking audiences on a psychogeographical walk through Santiago immersing each viewer in the history and energy of the events.

Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes

Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes tells the story of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, best known for her work on the Dr Who theme. The film uses posthumously discovered recordings to create a soundtrack and establish aesthetic connection between Derbyshire and musician Cosey Fanni Tutti who has sampled Derbyshire’s work.

Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes is showing at Luna Leederville on Monday July 5 at 8:00pm, Saturday July 10 at 11:30am and Sunday July 11 at 7:15pm.

We're Not Here to Fuck Spiders

We're not here to fuck spiders A tense, claustrophobic drama created from surveillance footage, We’re Not Here to Fuck Spiders, gives a glimpse into a drug house and the world of petty crime. With largely improvised performances the viewing experience isn’t for the faint-hearted. A homegrown crime movie the film is packed with electricity and dynamic power.

Some Kind of Heaven

Some Kind of Heaven is a documentary about the unexpected stories occurring in the paradise of the Villages, a vast retirement community dubbed “Disneyworld for retirees”. Following the inhabitants, this critically acclaimed, beautifully shot deadpan film offers a humours yet poignant insight into ageing and the desire for the uniquely American paradise.

Some Kind of Heaven will be screened at Luna Leederville on July 11 at 1:00pm.
