Kid-Friendly Street Art

Duncan Atack and Nikki Dale from Streets of Perth have just created an interactive map of Perth’s urban art hubs. Here, they share with us their picks for the city’s best street art for kids.

STRAKER, 2014

Kermit and his scooter can be found in a laneway off Mary Street in Highgate. This is a great little mural for kids because everyone loves The Muppets, and the height is perfect for photos.

JAMES GIDDY, 2015

Take your kids on safari in Vic Park with this incredible elephant mural. It provides a spectacular backdrop for photos, and can be found on the rear exterior of The Good Store on Albany Highway.

ANYA BROCK, 2014

This pretty cow is called Cupcake and she lives on the side of Sugar & Nice cafe in Inglewood. The mural is always a big hit with kids because the colours are gorgeous and there's lots of white space to pose in front of for photos. Mum and dad will be happy too, because they can grab a coffee while they're there.

MELSKI, 2015

Kids love aeroplanes and hotdogs so this 'H(otdog) Bomb' mural is a crowd-pleaser. The H Bomb element also allows parents to educate older kids about war time. You can find this artwork on the corner of Walcott and Learoyd streets in Mount Lawley.

HAYLEY WELSH, 2015

British artist Hayley Welsh is renowned for her whimsical murals, and we love this new one in Burswood. The artwork is very sweet and "Never Stop Playing" is a lovely philosophy for children and adults alike. You can visit this artwork at 128a Burswood Road.

DOLUS, 2014

You'll find this chimp in Wolf Lane, Perth CBD. Kids love having their photos taken with him, and adults will enjoy being surrounded by a range of other sensational murals in
the same area.

KIARA THOMAS, 2015

This quirky mural in Victoria Park's Hubert Street carpark combines a number of well-known creatures with a fun circus theme. Kids will enjoy identifying the different birds and animals while parents can marvel at three more murals adorning the different sides of the building.

FIELDEY, 2015

Kids will love this awesome 'Jumping the Shark' mural on Leonard Street in Victoria Park. After all, she's a four-armed shark-riding cowgirl goddess – what's not to love?!

PAUL DEEJ, 2014

This amazing mural is located in Mount Lawley's Grosvenor Lane (behind the IGA). It's a fantastic one to visit with children because the colours are vibrant and it's a great educational piece to show how art and nature can integrate with one another.

I'M THE BOSS, 2014

These two iconic characters can be found on the exterior of 263 Olive Street in Subiaco. Pikachu is a little splattered but the grunginess of this wall makes for a great photo. You'll also find some Angry Birds painted on the opposite wall.
