Locals Love Scarborough

In summer, Scarborough's waves, waterfront bars and neighbourhood cafes are heaving. Four locals reveal what they love most about their coastal suburb.

DO

Holly Hands, founder and director of 3am Thoughts, a PR, marketing and event-management agency.

YOGA CLASSES AT SCABOROUGH BEACH | When working in such a fast-paced industry, Scarborough Yoga is my little zen zone and go-to place to chill out.
It's a small, intimate studio with wooden floorboards. All the teachers are really passionate and inspiring.
SNORKELLING AT METTAMS POOL | On those many magic days when the ocean is still and crystal-clear, Mettams Pool is a great place to snorkel and explore
the coral and fish. It feels like I've instantly been transported to Rotto.
WALKING ALONG THE COAST | My favourite way to start or end the day is with a walk on Scarborough Beach at sunrise or sunset. There's always so much going on – surfers, kitesurfers, swimmers, surf-club training and people keeping active.
PUPPY WALKING AT PEASHOLM DOG BEACH | Peasholm Dog Beach is long and wide – the ultimate playground for our puppy, Django, who loves to romp
in the sand and surf and make new friends!
STIRLING FARMERS MARKETS | The Stirling Farmers Markets are held every Sunday morning, so I love to stock up on fresh produce for the week from local growers and suppliers.
BIKE RIDE BY THE SEA | The bike path along the coast offers uninterrupted views of the ocean.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AT THE AMPHITHEATRE | Throughout the summer months, the Scarborough Ampitheatre hosts a great line up of gigs and live entertainment, right on the beach. The backdrop doesn't get much better than that.
JOGGING THROUGH TRIGG BUSHLAND | This reserve is a little slice of the southwest – gravel tracks surrounded by shady trees and bushland. A quick dip in the ocean afterwards tops it off.

THE HARDWARE STORE CAFE AND EATERY | Breakfast, breakfast, breakfast. This place nails it every time. It's always busy, but the food and juices are well worth the wait. When in doubt, pancakes!
PIZZACA | Woodfired pizzas and homemade cakes – need I say more? Sitting outside in the cosy courtyard on a summer's night with a delicious pizza and bottle of wine is heavenly.
CAFE RELISH | Breakfast, lunch or dinner, it's always yum. There's nothing better than pancakes and a Bloody Mary. It speaks for itself.
SCARBOROUGH SPORTSMEN'S CLUB | My home away from home. The chicken parmy is my go-to meal, but every Thursday, I can't go past the $15 steak and glass of wine. I'm a sucker for a juicy steak and cheap booze.
CURRY PIRATES | The homemade dishes are delish and you can tailor the spiciness to suit you – anywhere between sweet and the fires of hell burning in your mouth. Excellent hangover cure.
CHINTA | Perfect for a Tinder date. Grab a coffee and run, or sit and enjoy a meal outside in the cute little wonderland courtyard.
LITTLE SISTO | Coffee and breakfast are a must here. A very cosy space to sit and enjoy your Sunday dose of bacon and eggs.

THE HARDWARE STORE CAFE AND EATERY | A good hipster restaurant on Brighton Road with a solid menu and diverse drink options. Have some gluten-free wine out of a jar amidst a sea of top-knots and dumb tattoos.
INDI BAR | Every once in a while a decent band plays here. Also, if you have an itch that only a bikie's knife can scratch, I highly recommend it.
SANDBAR/ TORCH BAR | A great location with spectacular views of Scarborough Beach. Good cocktails and friendly service. Be prepared to pay steep prices, though. I've had a pint on layby for a few months now.
OCEAN ONE BAR | Another well-situated establishment looking out over the beach. Perfect for an ice-cold beer on the waterfront in the middle of summer. I've heard they do bikini contests, so if you're a lonely pervert, it's perfect!
MATISSE BEACH CLUB | A new modern club where the Lookout used to be. There's a pool in the middle of the bar. Cannonballs are frowned upon.
TONY'S SPAGHETTI BAR | Not a bar, but it has 'bar' in the name so I included it. I walk in about once a month and shout, "That's a spicy meatball!", then leave.

HARVEST BOULANGERIE PATISSERIE | Located on Brighton Road, this place makes the most amazing bread, pastries, croissants, and other treats. They have a baking-time board so you know when items are fresh out of the oven. This place is not for the diet-conscious.
MILK FASHION | I don't go here too often, but my girlfriend does. A very popular local fashion store, that I'm told stocks amazing stuff. They have an extremely popular Facebook page, too.
MILK & PAPER | Arguably the best coffee in Scarborough and great spot to pick up your milk and paper. Caz, the owner, takes her milk very seriously.
THE SURF BOARDROOM | This place has been in Scarborough for years and is a true surfer's surf shop in that it doesn't just stock fashion items. It has one of the best surfboard selections in Perth.
COSMIC STUDIOS | Here you can pick up old vintage photos of Scarborough Beach as well as other cool paintings and furniture items.
GINGER OWL | Another boutique clothing store packed with unique fashion from labels such as Shona Joy, Mink Pink and OneTeaspoon, as well as cool homewares, candles and jewellery. All ideal for the local beach babe.
