Kicking off on March 4 with a special launch party, Festibowl combines the age-old sport of lawn bowling (some records show that the sport dates back to Ancient Greek & Roman times!) with street food and music. Running every Thursday evening throughout March at Lake Monger Recreation Club, it’s a great opportunity to have a go at lawn bowling and grab a drink with friends while you’re at it.
A concept from the team at Aus Street Food, Festibowl aims to keep lawn bowls alive by giving it a ‘21st Century makeover’. It aims to shift the perception that lawn bowls are only the preserve of retirees, offering fast-paced social games, plenty of street food and a lively atmosphere. Rotating on a fortnightly basis, festival-goers can expect food offerings such as curry, bao, and fried chicken.
With six rinks, two teams per rink and four bowlers per team, it is a perfect chance to get your group together for a game and then enjoy a bite to eat afterwards. All players have the chance to be part of ‘The Great Australian Bowl off’, in which you compete in a sudden death match to establish the best bowler of the hour.

Festibowl seeks to support local lawn bowling clubs and create a space where the community can gather and continue the legacy of this Australian sport. The event comes after a mass decline in people playing bowls and the devastating effects that COVID-19 has had on local businesses.
