For gin lovers who love to support local too, we’ve got you covered with these award-winning gins from distilleries across WA.

Moontide Distillery

Moontide Distillery is a child of the Kimberley – and holds fort as the only one in Broome. Opened on the first of July 2020, Moontide houses a range of complex and distinct spirits. Their signature White Pearl Gin has won three awards over the past two years, distilled with pure monsoonal rainwater and local botanicals combined with exotic fruits and spices. Their environmentalist philosophy - all operations are powered by solar panels and storage batteries - and efforts to facilitate employment within the local Indigenous community are another great reason to visit them on your next afternoon in Broome. Open Friday to Monday from 11:30am to 5:30pm (seasonally adjusted).

Bombak Distillery

Bombak Distillery is a family-owned & run distillery, set in a location that once served as a market garden for Nick Bombak’s immigrant great-grandfather in 1946. The land was worked by three generations and is once again being used by the fourth to handcraft spirits. Bombak produces their contemporary-style, small-batch gins using WA natives and the traditional “one-shot” method (championed by gin purists everywhere). Their old-school ways have won them accolades from the Perth Royal Show, Australian Distilled Spirits Awards and Australia Gin Distillers Association. Their beloved Navy Gin is full-bodied and features native species alongside fresh citrus; creating a memorably overproof spirit. Get your fix from any of their various stockists across WA, or shop it online.

Old MacDonald Gin

Tucked away in the Perth Hills, in a shed surrounded by olive trees, fat white geese and two old donkeys, Old MacDonald creates his gins. These smooth and sophisticated spirits boast natural ingredients from MacDonald’s own and other WA farms. Despite having just done the first release of their Citrus Twist gin, this special spirit has already won gold twice (and a “Best In Class'') due to the sheer zest and fruit-driven flavour packed into it. The seasonal changes to its flavour profile are also a pleasant twist, as you’ll never know what to expect with each bottle until you've tasted it. Now available online and stocked by well over 100 outlets in four states.

The Republic of Freo

The Republic of Freo is a nod to its local community of creative hearts, shunning conventions to create spirits from scratch. Born from this is a pure and smooth Verdelho grape-based spirit that carries the unique flavour of Western Australia. Carefully selected botanicals sourced from around the world are then added and distilled in the towering custom-built copper stills. The resulting award-winning Full-Bodied Gin is rich with the aroma of ripe fruits, rosemary and juniper, before a spicy peppery finish. All are invited to the ROF Bar + Kitchen to experience these one-of-a-kind spirits alongside a menu that mirrors their features of quality, finesse and flavour.

Little Stiller Distillery

Little Stiller’s ethos is family, friends and FUN! The founders wanted to capture the “spirit” of Western Australia in a bottle to share with the rest of the world, and after several drinking sessions, they did just that. The newly renovated boutique venue is a colourful spot set on the iconic Mandurah foreshore, where their gins are distilled onsite and blended with local WA botanicals. The flagship Signature gin is the quintessential essence of WA’s coastal lifestyle- designed to refresh during our warmer months - and has been dubbed champion gin in August, also securing a gold medal in the contemporary gin category. Visit them and partake in the Little Stiller tasting plate experience today, as well as their selection of bao buns. Open Wednesday & Thursday from 11am to 10pm; Friday & Saturday from 11am to 12am; Sunday from 11am to 8pm.

Dune Distilling Co

Located in Wilyabrup, Margaret River, Dune Distilling Co is nestled beside a dam and winding vineyards. Its distillers have been inspired by the rugged West Australian coastline and the beautiful native flora surrounding them, to the point the latter have become the stars of Dune’s gins. Another noteworthy feature is the artwork on their bottle labels - to date, six stunning art pieces from Western Australian artists have been featured on the Dune Distilling Spirit labels, all winners of the Dune Distilling Emerging Artists Competition; founded to provide local artists with a platform to showcase their talents. Make the most of your visit and explore the spectacular natural offerings on a self-drive trail, which will guide you to the parts of the adjacent Cowaramup to Gracetown region often missed.

Esperance Distillery Co

Run by a father and son team, driven by a mutual love of high-quality spirits, surfing and environmental conservation, this The Esperance Distillery Co is something truly unique to Esperance. So it would be only right their most popular spirit - Cut & Run - is one that pays homage to the pure, laid-back environment from which it was born, and won Gold at the 2021 West Australian Spirit Awards. Using native botanicals like Vanilla Acacia, married with spices and a smooth lingering aftertaste, it is produced in a way that respects the environment and celebrates the local biosphere.
