Thinking about heading down south this Easter, but don’t know where to begin? Look no further. The South-West has so much on offer, every season of the year – so whether you’re in need of complete relaxation, hardcore adventure, or a bit of both, this region has it all. So pack your bags, get in the car and come on down!

Spoil your taste buds

The drive down south can be taxing on your legs so be sure to rest and grab an award-winning pie at the cult classic Miami Bakehouse off Forrest Highway, West Pinjarra. Once your drive has finished, your options are endless with the amazing local produce on offer. In particular, the region is renowned for chocolate, cheese, bread, olive oils, truffles and award-winning ice cream – so stopping at Margaret River Chocolate Factory, Candy Cow and Simmo’s is essential.

Wine tasting and wine tours

Producing 20 per cent of Australia’s premium wine, Margaret River and the South-West have plenty of quality wineries to choose from. Hop on a wine tour or go at your own pace and explore some of the region’s 287 wineries. Alternatively, if wine is not your thing, the South-West also houses some amazing breweries. Make the most of their craft or traditional beers and grab a woodfired pizza while you’re at it. As a bonus, most of the breweries are family-friendly, so bring the kids along.

Get lost in WA's spectacular caves

There are more than 150 caves down south that are over 350,000 years old. Take a drive along the famous Caves Road and stop off at some of the more popular caves, including Jewel Cave, Lake Cave, Giants Cave, Mammoth Cave and Ngilgi Cave.

Go beach-hopping

Experience top-class swimming, fishing and surfing spots for the whole family at Smiths Beach. Alternatively, relax on the pristine white sand offered at Myalup Beach or pack a picnic and play some beach volleyball at the picturesque Meelup Beach.

Get up close and personal with stingrays at Hamelin Bay

WA’s famous Hamelin Bay offers crystal-clear waters and unspoiled white sand. However, it is also host to a collection of friendly stingrays that swim right up to the shore, offering some fantastic photography opportunities.

Walk the Cape to Cape Track

If it is an active holiday you seek, make sure to attempt the 125km long Cape to Cape Track. The track ranges from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin boasting everything from woodlands to sweeping ocean views.

Check out some national parks

Some of WA’s most spectacular national parks are housed in the South West region. Make sure to check out the beaches, caves and cliffs at Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, the giants among the virgin Karri Forests of Warren National Park and, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, the D’Entrecasteaux National Park showcases some spectacularly rugged coastal cliffs. If you desire a woodland landscape, get lost in the enchanting beauty of the Beedelup National Park’s mosses, ferns and waterfalls.

Explore the lakes and rivers of the South-West

Enjoy a scenic walk along the banks of the Blackwood River – the largest river in the South-West. There are a range of hiring facilities in the area for activities ranging from river rafting to canoeing.  The deep blue water of Lake Beedelup, alternatively, is a great way to soak up the tranquil beauty of the region.

Go tree climbing

Put yourself to the test and dare to climb the tallest trees on offer down south. Amongst the tallest are the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree at 75m, 61m Gloucester Tree or 51m Diamond Tree. Upon completion of these climbs you will be rewarded with the most spectacular panoramic views.

Pamper yourself

If you yearn to escape the bustling city life of Perth, there are plenty of luxurious day spas and retreats to choose from down south. Treat yourself to a massage and facial, or if you’re in need of some serious relaxation, make the most of the various wellness retreats.
